A 20-acre prairie ecosystem, the only public and protected prairie in Pennsylvania, can be found at Jennings Environmental Education Center. The prairie is home to 12 endangered and other distinct prairie plants, including the rare Blazing Star Prairie Flower that blooms in late July. The endangered Massasauga rattlesnake also can be found here. Trails throughout the 300-acre center enable visitors to enjoy the forest, wetlands and prairie. The center also offers a year-round series of environmental interpretive programs that are open to the public. Topics include winter tree identification, summer prairie tours, animal architecture and Native American history.
