See below for FAQs about the new Nautical Nature
How big is the new boat? – The new boat is constructed as a pontoon style boat with 4-ft diameter flotation pontoons. The boat is 16.5-ft wide and 51-ft long with the engines extending an additional 3-ft from the back of the pontoons.
What is it called? – The MPF tour boat will continued to be name the Nautical Nature. This name will continue to be used honor the 25-year tradition MPF has of operating a tour boat on Lake Arthur in Moraine State Park.
Who built it? – The new tour boat was built by Sailabration Houseboats, Inc. located in Powell Tennessee (a suburb of Knoxville Tennessee). Sailabration Houseboats is a small custom boat manufacturer. Sailabration Houseboats has been manufacturing houseboats for 20-years and has boats located throughout the United States.
What will it be used for? – The new MPF tour boat will continue the legacy from the first tour boat where it will be utilized for school/educational cruises, general public cruises during the weekends, periodic weekend dinner cruises and is available for charter to celebrate a special event.
How was it funded? – The new MPF tour boat was funded through a combination of MPF savings accumulated over 10-years; corporate sponsors: Butler County Tourism, Peoples Gas, MSA, NexTier, J Gray Corp and AK Steel; several individuals and financing through NexTier back and the Federal SBA EIDL program.
Why is it on the water now?– The new boat was launched on Thursday October 22, 2020 to allow for testing and training in preparation of the 2021 operating season. Unfortunately, the delivery of the boat did not allow for receipt of public watercraft certification or other preparations to be completed to allow for public cruise operation during the 2020 operating season.
When will it be available for cruises? – Public cruises will start on Memorial day weekend of 2021. Watch the Moraine Preservation Facebook page for details.
How fast does it go? – The new tour boat was designed to have two commercial rated outboard engines. These commercial engines will provide MPF with an anticipated longer life engine and maintenance costs. Cruises will be performed with the engines running at an approximate 2,800-rpm engine speed for fuel efficiency and comfort of our passengers. This equates to approximately 10-mph, the boat is capable of speeds nearly double that which would only be utilized in an emergency situation.
How many people will be able to cruise at one time? – The new tour boat was designed to have a 50-paeegner capacity plus a crew of a minimum of two (captain and first mate).
Is that a second tier? – One of the exciting features for the new boat is the open upper deck area. While passengers will not be allowed to be on the upper deck during docking operations or inclement weather, the upper deck will be available to enhanced viewing while the boat is safely underway, at the discretion of the captain and crew.
